Seussical the Musical
February 25-March 13, 2022

Music & Lyrics by Lynn Ahrens & Stephen Flaherty

Now one of the most performed shows in America, Seussical is a fantastical, magical, musical extravaganza! The Cat in the Hat tells the story of Horton, an elephant who discovers a speck of dust that contains the Whos, including Jojo, a Who child sent off to military school for thinking too many "thinks." Horton faces a double challenge: not only must he protect the Whos from a world of naysayers and dangers, but he must guard an abandoned egg, left in his care by the irresponsible Mayzie La Bird. Although Horton faces ridicule, danger, kidnapping, and a trial, the intrepid Gertrude McFuzz never loses faith in him. Ultimately, the powers of friendship, loyalty, family, and community are challenged and emerge triumphant in this fun for the whole family show!

Jess Alexander (Wickersham Brother, Yertle the Turtle, & The Grinch) was born in Elkhart, and over the last ten years has been performing and working in New York and Chicago, mainly performing in original productions at The Annoyance Theater and RIFF: Chicago's Improvised Music Party at iO Chicago. Love and gratitude to his partner, Lauren, for her unwavering support.

Derek Bacon (General Genghis Kahn Schmitz & Wickersham Brother) is thrilled to be returning to Art 4 after previously playing J.P Morgan in their virtual production of Ragtime last year. Derek has a BFA in Theatre and Musical Theatre from North Central College (Naperville, IL). Recent credits include Mr. Laverly (When Call the Heart), Charity Collector #2 (A Musical Christmas Carol), and Mr. Elton (Emma). Derek would like to thank his family, friends, and educators for their support over these last 20 years and the years to follow.

Laurel Blankenship (Bird Girl & Citizen of the Jungle) is thrilled to work with Art 4 again! Most recently she was seen as Mark’s Mom and others in their performance of RENT. Some of her favorite roles have been Mrs. Wormwood/Dance Captain in Matilda, Featured Dance Ensemble/Dance Captain in Elf the Musical, Chiffon in Little Shop of Horrors, and Fiona in Shrek the Musical. In her free time, you can find her singing, dancing, or being Elsa for birthday parties! She would like to thank Mark and Aaron for their support, for casting her in such a fun show, and her mother for her endless love and support!

Daniel Grey (The Cat in the Hat) is over the moon about returning to work with Art 4. This will be his third outing after The Spitfire Grill and Ragtime. A South Bend native and huge theatre nerd, Daniel has performed in more than 50 stage shows since getting into acting in high school. A graduate of Bethel University, he played such roles as Arnold in The Boys Next Door, Gandalf in The Hobbit, and Scott in When Scott Comes Home. He performs regularly with the South Bend Civic Theatre, Art 4, and The Round Barn, and performed in such shows as Beauty and the Beast, The Importance of Being Earnest, and The Secret Garden. As for Seussical, this will likely be one of his newest top shows, and he hopes he can show everyone a good time. He wouldn't want anything less.

Brielle Hall (Sour Kangaroo & Bird Girl) is a junior at Indiana University South Bend. She is currently majoring in sociology and plans to pursue women and children’s counseling as a career. Brielle has participated in musicals at South Bend Civic Theater and Clay High School. You may have seen her in Sister Act, Caroline or Change, We Will Rock You, and was last seen in Art 4’s sold-out production of RENT as Joanne. She would like to thank the directors of Art 4 for such an amazing opportunity. She would also like to thank all of her family but especially her parents who always go above and beyond for her!

Sarah Hungerman (Jojo) is 12 years old and in sixth grade at Schmucker Middle School (Go Spartans!). She is very excited to be in her first production with Art 4. Her favorite past shows include Les Misérables School Edition (Claquesous/Ensemble), Matilda the Musical (Matilda), The Jungle Book (Tabaqui), and Shrek the Musical (Baby Shrek/Ensemble). Sarah loves camping, backpacking, swimming, skiing, books, and food. She would like to thank Clare, Drake, Julius, Patrick, and the rest of the UYT team for inspiring her love of theater. She would also like to thank her cats—Simon, Baxter, and Merlin—as well as her human family. Enjoy the show!

Erin Joines (Gertrude McFuzz & Bird Girl) is so excited to return to the Art 4 stage! She has previously understudied for the Art 4 productions of Next to Normal (Natalie) and Ghost Quartet (Rose). Erin has been performing in the greater South Bend area since she was 9 years old. Some of her favorite previous works include Annie in Annie (SBCT), Maureen in RENT and Sandra in Big Fish (Clay High School), and Margo in Bright Star (Elkhart Civic). She is so grateful to be working with Mark and Aaron again, and especially on Seussical, a show she has done twice before and is one of her favorites! She would like to thank her family for all their love, and the incredible cast and team for coming together in an amazing show!  She hopes you all get ready to enter the world of Seuss, and enjoy the show!

Her favorite roles over the years include Charlotte (Cinderella), Olive (25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee), Fiona (Shrek), and Lucy (Bright Star). Emma is a senior at Clay High School and has been a member of their dance department since freshman year. After graduation, she plans to continue studying musical theatre and dance in college. For the past four years, she has been a part of The Lark Comedy Institute’s teen performance troupe here in South Bend. She would like to thank her teacher, Kelli McBride, and her troupe for all of the love and laughs. She would also like to thank her family and friends for being her support system throughout all her career endeavors. And a special thank you to her castmate, Cristian, who drove her to almost every rehearsal. She is incredibly grateful for everything she has learned and all the friendships she has made during her time with Art 4. Instagram: @emma_kopec

He would like to thank his amazing Art 4 family for the wonderful teamwork and endless fun. He hopes you can sit forward, forget about the craziness of the world, and engage with us as we take you on the magical journey that is Seussical.

Emma Radtke (Mayor & Wickersham Brother) is thrilled to be in her first show with Art 4! Although this is her Art 4 debut she is no stranger to the stage and has been performing for many years.
